Case Study for Documentary Filming: The Northern Rivers Community Foundation

FROM LITTLE THINGS BIG THINGS GROW

At Value Imagery, we believe the most powerful stories come from real people.

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation (NRCF) approached Value Imagery to create a 15-minute documentary that showcases the impact the NRCF has made.

The film featured 14 individuals, including donors, founders, and recipients, sharing their experiences of how NRCF has shaped lives and strengthened the local community. The documentary premiered at NRCF’s annual giving awards night, where it played a key role in inspiring guests to donate over $1 million that evening.

Real Stories, Real Impact

ALWAYS AUTHENTIC, ALWAYS INSPIRING

Authentic storytelling to capture real impact

Our key goal was to make each interviewee comfortable on camera so as to capture genuine responses that reflect their experiences. We employed warm, conversational interview techniques so that everyone would be able to talk with ease and from the heart.

To enhance the storytelling experience, we incorporated:

  • Multi-Cam Interviews – We capture each story from a number of angles to create a cinematic look and to speed up editing during the post-production phase.
  • Drone Cinematography – We used drone footage to showcase the beauty of the Northern Rivers region as well as the extent of the NRCF’s impact.
  • On-Site B-Roll & Found Footage – We obtained historical footage, captured community activities, and shot custom B-roll to add to the film’s visual variety.
  • Authentic Storytelling Approach – 100% authentic and unscripted responses. This helps us bring forth a real and emotionally moving story.
  • Curated locations – We intentionally filmed at locations connected to NRCF’s work to drive cohesion with the narrative.

Post-Production Process

  • We provided easy access to the client for the review process. The client was able to leave timestamped notes on the video, which streamlined feedback and the editing process.
  • Closed captions were added to ensure that the documentary was accessible to the whole audience.
  • Music and sound effects were licensed and curated as necessary to drive the emotion we were looking for.

Supporting Community Organisations

At Value Imagery, we feel strongly about using our skills to give back to the communities we live and work in. We recognise the important work done by various local non-profits and organisations – which is why we want to help them share their story.

To make video production services more accessible to these organisations, we offer a sizeable discount on our standard video production rates for charities and non-profits. Whether it’s an engaging documentary, attention-grabbing fundraising content, or powerful testimonials, we can help extend your organisation’s impact.

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation documentary perfectly demonstrates what the mission is capable of doing. Through making an impactful, emotional film, we helped inspire donors to contribute to actual change, proving once again that on-screen work can make things happen off-screen.

The Project Outcome

NRCF’s impact and mission were featured compellingly through the documentary film at their annual event, which resulted in over $1 million in donations raised in a single evening.
